The next Medicare Open Enrollment Period (technically the Annual Election Period or AEP) will begin on Saturday October 15th and will end on Wednesday December 7th. There are exceptions, but for most Medicare recipients it is the only time of the year they can change to a different Medicare health plan.
You can get quotes for Medicare health plans on this site.
During this seven-and-a-half-week period our clients and other policyholders will be able to change plans or return to Original Medicare and perhaps enroll in a Medicare supplement and a prescription drug plan.
You may receive your “Annual Notice of Change” document as early as September. Agents sometimes call this the “ANOC” and pronounce it like “A knock.” This document covers any changes to a given policy’s deductible, copays and monthly premium along with other changes.
(We typically go over these changes with our clients to make sure that this year’s policy will be a good fit for them next year.)
Exceptions to the Open Enrollment rule include:
- People turning 65
- People with a grey Connect Card
- People who recently moved to Connecticut
- People are about to lose their group coverage
If you fit into one of the above categories, you qualify to enroll or change plans at any point in the year.
